Do you want to start a blog or an online journal to write something? It could be a fashion blog, crafts blog or simply a site to share your thoughts, and also make some money out of it. But not sure how to proceed.
This series of articles will help you start with your first blog in a very simple way without spending too much money and also with fewer efforts. All you have to do is just follow these steps to get seated with your blog and also know technicalities, do’s and donts.
1. Name of the blog:
This is very important as people remember your blog as this. Some have different names for their blogs or for their online pseudo name. If you are not sure about what to name, make sure to have your full name as a blog name, as this will make your Name as Brand. I always suggest having your name as a blog name, as people remember your name and will be very easy to type on the browser.
If you are new and want to start with the blog without any technical knowledge, then I suggest you try Blogger.com or WordPress.com – remember that with these two free blogging platforms you will get a subdomain (like http://yourname.wordpress.com/ ) as your blog address. With such sites, you will not be able to do much and is not something that I advise people to do.
You can always start with own domain name, which is better for SEO and also having your name as the domain will be credible for any person reading it.
There will few efforts that you will have to put in order to go further on this road, as domain/hosting/WordPress – all these are bit technical and my series will help you in all aspects only if you put your mind to it. The end result will be worth all your efforts.
2. Buying a Domain Name:
Once you decide on the name, buy your domain name at any of these following websites:
Godaddy.in (cheap in the first year – later from the second year its costly)
Bigrock.com (consistently cheap)
domains.google.com (average priced but with fewer options for management)
aaptahosting.com (consistently cheap)
While buying any domain name be sure to remember these things, as these are very important in securing your website and data.
- Always register your domain with your personal email ID, the one which is used by you and only you and have access to you all the time. As Email authentication for domain moves from registrar to registrar is a must and if you lose access to the email then you might lose access to the domain too.
- Provide your mobile number and also activate two-step authentication so that you get an SMS every time you log in.
- Privacy Protection – some websites charge extra for this service, if anyone types your domain on some domain info websites (whois) – all your details along with email, phone and address will show up. If you buy and activate privacy protection then you will not get much spam and it’s not just about spam and many other things too. So get this, it’s very useful.
- You might forget about renewals – so always select auto-renew option so that money will be deducted from your card automatically or else intimate your domain provider to remind them about renewals via phone or SMS.
Will discuss the rest in next series and follow me on social media to know when i will be publishing my next series and also other important info about many other things.
